Meeting in a living room does not make a group a church. Biblical order, shepherding, and accountability do.
A house church without covering can become an echo chamber. A church in a house keeps the same blueprint as any faithful congregation.
New church plants reach new people faster than large churches that mostly grow by transfer.
Description:Close your eyes and picture church. A stadium with smoke machines? A stone cathedral? A worn couch? This deep dive strips the packaging and goes back to Acts. Jesus told the disciples to wait for dunamis power. Pentecost happened in a house. After Stephen was stoned, Saul dragged believers from house to house. Priscilla and Aquila hosted the church that met in their house. The argument from greglancaster.org/thevine is simple. Geography does not change God’s expectations. Mega, community, or living room is only the box. Obedience is the product.
Jack Hollis draws the line that organizes the whole episode. There is a big difference between a house church and a church in a house. A house church, as the phrase is often used, can lack leaders, drift toward the loudest voice, and mutate into a social hangout. A church in a house may use the same couch, but it keeps biblical order, shepherding, and external accountability. Average U.S. congregation size is cited at about sixty-five, a group that can fit in a home. Many large ministries began in houses, including names like Morningstar, Saddleback, and Life.Church, but they did not stay an ungoverned circle of friends.

Why submitting to God is fundamentally different from depending on human government. Government, leaders, pastors, and institutions can never replace a personal life of hearing, trusting, and obeying God.

When trouble comes, opposition rises, the economy shakes, or circumstances become uncomfortable, it does not automatically mean we have missed God. Jesus Himself warned His followers that obedience would bring opposition. Scripture reveals again and again that God demonstrates His power in the middle of circumstances that appear impossible.
Greg explores the difference between relying on "hirelings" and personally submitting to God. Drawing from John 10:12-13, James 4:7, Luke 4:5-6, Ephesians 6:12, and biblical examples including Abraham, Moses, Pharaoh, Jehoshaphat, and Jesus, he reminds us that our ultimate battle is spiritual. Government cannot produce righteousness, and leaders cannot take the place of our own responsibility to know God's Word, hear His voice, pray, repent, trust Him, and obey.
The question ultimately becomes deeply personal: Do we really trust God enough to let Him lead? God is trustworthy. He loves His people, speaks to His people, and has good plans for them. Rather than trying to control circumstances and people, believers are called to submit themselves to God, resist the devil, and follow the Lord wherever He leads.

In this episode, Greg Lancaster examines the powerful connection between relationship, belonging, purpose, and hope. Controversy and progress can happen at the very same time. When we look back at great moments in biblical or national history, everything can appear orderly from a distance. But when you look closer, you discover disagreement, resistance, mistakes, opposition, and imperfect people right in the middle of extraordinary progress.
Israel’s journey out of captivity was filled with complaining, rebellion, and challenges to Moses’ leadership. Even Jesus’ disciples argued about who would be greatest, and Peter once tried to correct Jesus concerning the very path He had come to fulfill. Yet God continued working. Why? Because God works through human beings, people just like you and me, with all our weaknesses and rough places.

Art shares how he went back to the Gospels and the book of Acts, examined his questions about healing, and became convinced that the life and ministry of Jesus reveal God’s desire to heal.
Art recounts the surprising moment when a young church intern suffering from a severe ear infection and hearing loss was prayed for and experienced healing. That encounter helped Art recognize an important distinction: faith is not about human effort, emotional intensity, or trying to manufacture a miracle. It is about trusting Jesus. As Art puts it, “In the kingdom, if it doesn’t work, try less and trust more.”
The conversation also explores Art’s experiences ministering in Uganda, where he witnessed people being healed and then watched local believers begin ministering to one another.
